Although there are hundreds of families worldwide, knowing 50 basic families in California will identify most plants 90 percent of the time. This series, taught by Glenn Keator, will emphasize families important in California by examining their features in the garden.

Among the important families you'll learn about are Lamiaceae, the mint family; Asteraceae, the daisy family; Liliaceae, the lily family; Rosaceae, the rose family; and Fabaceae, the pea family.

Price is for the entire series.

Glenn Keator is a botanist, teacher, and writer specializing in California native plants. He has been the principal teacher for the docent training classes at the Botanic Garden, and has taught at several venues around the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Keator has written several books, including many University of California Press titles: Introduction to Trees of the San Francisco Bay Region, California Plant Families, and Designing California Native Gardens (co-authored with Alrie Middlebrook).
